The 97th Academy Awards ceremony will take place Sunday, 2nd March 2025 and honour the best films released between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024.
The 2024 awards saw Oppenheimer dominate with seven wins including Best Picture, Best Director (Christopher Nolan), Best Actor (Cillian Murphy) and Best ing Actor (Robert Downey Jr.)
Emma Stone won Best Actress for Poor Things, while Da’Vine Joy Randolph won Best ing Actress for The Holdovers.

Well, as you can imagine, the race for Best Picture is really heating up. The nominations are out, and there are a few front-runners that have been given the nod.

I’m Still Here – 50/1
Walter Salles’ powerful Brazilian drama has made Oscar history as the first South American film to receive a Best Picture nomination at the 97th Academy Awards.
Set during Brazil’s military dictatorship in the 1970s, the film tells the haunting true story of Eunice Paiva, whose husband, a former congressman, is taken by the military and disappears.
Torres delivers a compelling performance as Eunice, who endures torture and persecution in her quest to uncover the truth about her husband’s fate.

The ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, March 2nd, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.
WHO DECIDES THE OSCARS?
The voting process that determines which films are nominated is a long and complicated process that involves thousands of voting and hundreds of eligible films.
Each eligible voting member belongs to one of 17 branches. Each branch nominates for its own category — e.g., editors nominate editors, actors nominate for acting categories etc.
Best Picture is the only award where all can vote.
WHEN WILL THE NOMINATIONS BE ANNOUNCED?
The nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were supposed to be announced on Friday, January 17th, however it was moved to Thursday, January 23rd, because of the LA fires.
The nominations voting period ran from January 8-12, 2025, during which Academy cast their votes.
Out of 323 eligible feature films, 207 qualified for Best Picture consideration.
The announcement revealed nominees across all 23 Academy Award categories at which time all of the Oscars 2025 odds were updated in the betting markets.
